I strictly suggest you not to wait any longer. Just schedule an appointment with a reputed dental consultant near you and explain everything about the dental problem. There is no need to remove the tooth, a root canal treatment from scratch will definitely work and will give you improvement within 2 weeks.

Your best course of action is to write to the dentist and tell him you are not happy with the work that has been done. Presumably you have already told him or the practice verbally you are not happy with the work. The sooner you do this the more likely you are of having a successful outcome which I presume is to have the filling changed.

I would also ask the dentist to comment in writing about his comment to you "people do not have injections anymore for fillings" as this is a very odd comment for him to have made to you

Duraphat toothpaste is a high fluoride content toothpaste aimed at the prevention and reversal of early decay. The guidelines I presume your dentist is referring to are:

http://www.dh.gov.uk/prod_consum_dh/groups/dh_digitalassets/documents/digitalasset/dh_102982.pdf

-where it is indicated for high caries (decay) risk patients. If you find it successful in reducing your sensitivity then I would have no problem in prescribing it to you, however.

You could either discuss it with your dentist, stating the recommended toothpastes haven't worked, or find another dentist.
