Dental help wanted – Fistula above root canal

"A few months after having root treatment I experienced some pain and a large lump appeared above the tooth which my dentist called a fistula I think. My dentist cleaned out the tooth but the lump did not go away. He then referred me to an endodentist. I paid upfront quite a lot of money he has taken some x-rays and told me the lump is not tooth related. The lump frequently leaks and has I have a bad taste and smell in that area. I dont know what to do now I have no more money to see another dentist."

A fistula ( or sinus) is just a fancy name for a passage between one part of the body to another. In this case the fistula is allowing a route for the infection from your failed root canal to exit the body. Its highly unlikely that the lump is NOT related to the your root filled tooth. you will basically need either a Re-root canal ( which is what your original referred your to the endodontist for) OR you will need to have the tooth removed.
I would advise you to ask for the endodontist to give you a written report stating that the lump is NOT tooth related . if he wont then ask for your money back. Also see if you can be refered to a hospital endodontist
