ONLINE QUESTION – Gap at the base of a Dental Crown
“I had the crowns on my two front teeth replaced a few months ago and ever since I have been experiencing a nasty taste coming from the area. I revisited my dentist and was instructed to use Superfloss and Corsodyl Gel to clean and disinfect the area. I have examined the inside of my mouth with a mirror and I can see a gap between the base of the crowns and the gum revealing the teeth underneath, there is also a gap to one side where food is being trapped. What are your thoughts..?”
ANSWER
If you know where the food is being trapped you need to very carefully clean that area with floss and interdigital sticks (and elsewhere of course). You cannot afford poor dental hygiene at this stage – the nasty taste is a warning that you are not being careful enough. Ask your dentist about the gap and what is his opinion about the gum recovering.
