ONLINE QUESTION - New Dental Filling
“I went to my dentist as an emergency in aug 2011 with a sensitive tooth. The filling at the front of the tooth did not feel right and I suspected I needed a repair or new filling. The dentist gave me two minutes of his time to tell me that either that tooth or any other tooth on that side of my mouth was cracked and all he could do was take it out or put a crown on, but that might not fix the problem. He said I could leave it and wait until I had an abscess then he would have to take it out anyway. This cost me about £17. I went away and we eventually went for a check up in feb 2012 by which time I had been unable to eat on this side of my mouth for some months. He now asked me about the tooth again and I said nothing had changed so he decided to do an X-ray and said that it was an old filling that needed replacing with a better new one which he said he would do in white. I paid my £60 and went along to my appointment. I was told that people do not have injections anymore for fillings and he would stop if it got too painful. I had my filling done and when I got home and looked he had only taken the front half of the old filling out and replaced it with white so I now have two different types of filling. I feel that this was an exercise in grab as much money from the punters for as little work and expense as possible. ”

Surely you misheard your dentist saying “people do not have injections anymore for fillings”, this is an extremely odd comment
There is nothing wrong with my hearing and this is exactly what the dentist said . Do I take it from your comment that I may have grounds for a complaint ?
Your best course of action is to write to the dentist and tell him you are not happy with the work that has been done. Presumably you have already told him or the practice verbally you are not happy with the work. The sooner you do this the more likely you are of having a successful outcome which I presume is to have the filling changed.
I would also ask the dentist to comment in writing about his comment to you “people do not have injections anymore for fillings” as this is a very odd comment for him to have made to you
